Resetting the ProtectServer 3 Network HSM appliance to factory settings
This section describes how to reset a ProtectServer 3 Network HSM appliance to factory settings. This action resets all appliance account passwords, SNMP, and network configuration to factory settings.
You may need to reset an appliance to factory settings as part of a full factory reset of a ProtectServer 3 External or ProtectServer 3+ External, where you are decommissioning the HSM, shipping it back to Thales for an RMA, or repurposing it for your organization. For more information about the RMA process, refer to RMA and shipping back to Thales.
Caution
Attempting to reset the ProtectServer 3 Network HSM appliance to factory settings over an SSH connection may cause you to lose connection with the appliance when the IP address is reset. To avoid this, use a serial connection instead when using this command.
Note
Resetting the ProtectServer 3 Network HSM appliance to factory settings does not clear the iptables for the device. To return the iptables to a default state, use network iptables clear.
Tip
If you are performing a full factory reset of the ProtectServer 3 Network HSM, Thales recommends that you complete the procedures described in Resetting a ProtectServer 3 Network HSM to factory settings before resetting the appliance to factory settings.
